Review of Philips Norelco HP6475 Satin Ice Epilator

To ensure smooth legs for my wedding day, I decided to buy an epilator. I bought the Norelco based on very positive recommendations from my European friends.
They could not have given me a better recommendation.
The epilator is quick and efficient. The ice attachment takes care of any negative sensations during epilating. I also love the fact that my skin does not get irritated nor leaves me with the usual nicks and cuts.
I have not even mentioned the difference in hair on my legs, much thinner and lighter. You hardly see it growing back (after two weeks in my case). No more blades for me! I have been converted.
Recommend this to every woman that is looking for beautiful smooth legs!

Review of Philips Norelco HP2841/32 Satinelle Epilator

I have used an EpiLady (works with a spring instead of tweezer disks) for about 5 years and the adapter recently died.I decided to try the Norelco to see if it works better.

The Norelco is better at removing underarm hair, but I found the EpiLady was quicker at removing leg hair (it covers a larger area)

My Norelco did not come with the stated loofah and cleaning brush.I returned it to Amazon and received another Norelco which also didn't have these 2 items.I don't know if this is a problem with Norelco or if people are returning the product to Amazon and they're not checking to make sure everything is in the box...

Overall, I am happy with the Norelco. It does what it claims to do and is a lot less expensive than other epilators.

Review of Philips Norelco 7745X Cool Skin Lotion Dispensing Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

But now I'm not, for sure. I have tough skin, so shaving with a razor never left cuts for me. But it was a mixed blessing, because shaving with a razor, indeed, caused a rather bad acne problem until I switched to waxing for almost two years.

Waxing was great, but a pain to preform -- So I finally decided to spend my birthday money on an electric razor. All my friends insisted I'd regret it, and that they don't work. The whole usual spiel about getting a rash, and just wasting my money. But being the stubborn person I am, I had to find out for myself.

As usual, my friends were full of it.

First of all, not only do I not get acne with an electric razor, *but* I never got any rashes or irriation, even during the first week I used it. I have dark, black facial hair, that is somewhat thinned out due to the waxing. But they're also hard and 'fine'.

The electric, no, isn't literally as close as a true hand razor. But it's close enough for the conveniance -- It's quicker than a blade for me, and easier since I don't have to sit there digging hairs out of the blades so I could continue shaving.

I run it under warm water when I shave. For the lotion, it's great, but I have to be honest -- I barely use it. I use a pea-sized drop for each side of my face, and then the rest of the experience is all warm water. It works great, though, and I have no complaints. Not to mention that I've been using one lotion pouch for *weeks* now... But I guess I should mention I only need to shave every 2-3 days, not every day. A little stubble never hurt anyone. (And being a musician, I don't have to worry about leaving a good impression on office types.)

Overall I'm surprisingly satisfied. I also admittedly chose this one because it's an awesome green. My only REAL complaint is that, considering the nature of this razor, I can't shave between for my eyebrows. So for this, I've now gotten into the routine of tweezing, if only to avoid the putrid unibrow.

Review of Philips Norelco HP6492 Satinelle Ice Epilator

I absolutely love this product! Before finally purchasing the HP6492, I also tried the Braun 5270 and the Philips Norelco HP2843.The HP6492 is BY FAR the best!!The Braun product was horrible, very painful and with a bunch of useless gadgets that came with the product so they could charge more for it.The Philips HP2843 is an inexpensive product, but more painful than the HP6492.

The HP6492 is wonderful.Virtually painless and still at a reasonable price.By the way, I have used it on my legs, underarms and on the bikini area, and they were all manageable.

Definitely buy this one!!

Review of Philips Norelco G250 All-in-One Personal Groomer, Silver

I agree with the other user...This unit works really well, Acu-Control really does work. However, the stand is not a charging stand, but a storage stand. The charging plug is on the bottom of the unit, you will have to lay it down flat while charging--not a very smart design if you ask me.The storage stand can't take the unit if it's plugged in.But everything else is great...

Review of Philips Norelco 7800XLCC Jet Clean System Men's Shaver

This shaver is pretty awesome for the price. The seems to work well just make sure you rinse the razor after cleaning to get the little stubble out.The heads it comes with are so so.My brother has a higher model with SpeedXL heads. After close examination I figured that the advanced heads would fit this razor and they did.Make sure you pick up some SpeedXL heads when you buy this one for maximum performance. They work fine even though Philips/Norelco doesn't approve it (probably to make people spring for a more expensive model).

Review of Philips Norelco HP2843 Satinelle Epilator

I bought an epilator because I was tired of shaving my legs and waxing was just too expensive for me.I've had my epilator for several weeks now and I am already seeing amazing results!

I used it for the first time on my legs.I'm not going to lie...It was painful.I just made sure to go slowly, pausing every few inches, and making sure my skin was pulled as tightly as I could get it.Eventually, I was able to get most of the thick, dark hairs off of my legs.

**Please know that the Epilator is not an immediate "cure-all".Hair grows in stages, so as soon as you get rid of some hairs, several more grow in behind them.(Eventually you can probably get rid of most to all of them, but it will take some time.)Because of this, it is good to try epilating a couple of times a week.Since it's winter, I just let it all grow out so that the Epilator can get more hairs. However, when new hair grows in, I am finding that they are thinner and blonde instead of dark brown. It doesn't hurt nearly as much to pull those out!I also know that I'll be able to do this in the spring and summer because the hair is lighter. My legs are smoother and I don't get razor burn!Right after epilating, sometimes I do experience a little irritation but, unlike razor burn, it goes away after just a short time.

Another neat thing is that, unlike waxing, the Epilator can grab the teeny tiny almost invisible hairs. This gives your skin a smoother feel and it gets hairs at the beginning stages of growth!I used to have to wait two weeks or so for my hair to grow long enough to be waxed. Now, I get smoother skin just about whenever I want to!

I was a little nervous at first about spending money on a product I had not heard much about. With the exception of the few reviews I read online, I was pretty much in the dark.I went ahead and went for it, then realized that this thing paid for itself in about two weeks! Not only have I epilated my legs, I have also used it under my arms, on my upper lip, and on my bikini line. The results have been better than I could have imagined!!

Again, I'm not going to lie...OUCH!!!!!Epilating under my arms hurt initially and they were sore for a few days (I have very thick hairs). However, I got the majority of the hairs and after the first time, I realized that I'm never going to have to shave again!Yes, some little blonde hairs grow back, but they are ALL thinner and much less painful. In fact, sometimes it tickles a little.:o)I epilate there once to twice a week (about a five minute job if you're being careful, two if you're in a hurry) and I have smoother underarms!

I used to get my upper lip waxed about once a month. Now I just epilate. It hurts, but just for a second.Plus, I keep up with it so instead of 50 hairs being pulled at once with hot wax, I only need to pull 5-10 each time.

**A word of caution: Our skin is more sensitive in some areas, so if you choose to epilate around the bikini line, be careful.I managed to give myself a burn from going too slowly with the rotating "blade".Now I just make sure that I don't leave it in one place for more than a couple of seconds. If I miss some hairs, I come back another time to get them.

This epilator comes with a little loufa pad to help reduce ingrown hairs (I've only had a few and the pad fixes them) and a little cleaning brush. The epilator is very easy to clean. The top (dark purple section) pops off and you run it under hot water. When it dries, you put it back on.**Note, the epilator does not store hairs inside of it.When they are pulled out, they tend to either gather on the front of the epilator (I stop periodically to wipe them off) or they go flying.I sit on a towel when epilating to catch most of the hairs.

I hope this review was helpful to you with your decision about buying an epilator.I am very satisfied with this product and I recommend it to anyone who has at least a little pain tolerance and really wants to get rid of hair stop having to shave all the time.

**Are the few minutes of pain worth it???ABSOLUTELY!:o)

Review of Philips Norelco 6843XL Reflex Plus Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Men's Shaving System

Unlike others, my motivation for going with electric shaving was based on medicine. That is, I am so many different blood thinners that, no matter what shaving system I use, I managed to get at least a small cut or two and these would bleed and bleed, etc.So, it occurred to me to try an electric razor.I read the generally excellent reviews posted at this site--thanks to all of you guys for your input!I decided on this middle of the line Norelco. It's a couple of models from the bottom; the bottom one is cord only, the next one is cordless only, and then comes this model.I spent some time at the store looking over the different blade systems; even Norelco alone has several going.I knew I didn't want that squishy mess like the most expensive, and I was reluctant to sink a small fortune into something I might not like. What decided most of all for me to get this 'Reflex Plus' system was that it has a whisker collection chamber so they don't go all over the place.I think the model(s) above this have lithium ion batteries, whereas this model still has NiCads--which I hate.If I traveled more than I do, I'd spring for the model above for about $10 more.NiCads are slow to charge and are generally crummy; I've been using them in photo equipment for 30 years. This particular razor can be used just as easily plugged into the wall, which I like.I also like the fact that it doesn't require a separate charging stand, you just plug the cord into the bottom.

How did it shave?Great for me.I'm blond with a fairly soft beard and it plowed through about 3 days' worth of beard, making a chopping sound the whole time.I felt an occasional 'pull' but then this was fairly long beard.Once the long hair was gone I found it quite smooth to shave with.I bought some 'Lectric Shave' at the store at the same time I bought the razor but I didn't use it.Having fairly light-colored hair on my face, I never have the Fred Flintstone look regardless.I found, though, that the razor certainly got my beard acceptably close.I can still feel hair on my face, but not to an unacceptable degree.I have usually used a German Mercury double-edge razor with Wilkinson Sword blades and this doesn't shave that close. It might do better or different with another's beard. As for me, I'm delighted, and it didn't cut me at all.I'm in my forties, so don't have any deep wrinkles, etc., to cut through. That might be different.

Unlike some of the other razors I looked at, this model is light to hold and not bulky. Some of the other, more expensive models seemed both huge and heavy.I wasn't willing to mess with that.Having only used this a couple of weeks, I can't speak to the long-term durability.Seems appropriate to the price, though.I don't think it'll cost me particularly more than blades and shave gel in the long run.It is very quiet.I am looking forward to many more pleasant shaves!

Review of Philips Norelco G290 6-in-1 Grooming Kit

I really like this shaver and I use it a lot. I write a lot of reviews on Amazon that are for fun only and not serious, but believe me, I am being serious here.

This shaver has lots of good features, and it definitely does pay for itself. I'm a guy who just likes having a crew cut, and this shaver is perfect for that. Why go to the store and pay $15 to have some stranger cut your hair (and have to waste your time waiting until they can get to you) when you can just buy this baby and do it yourself? Or better yet, have your significant other help you out and do it for you. It has already paid for itself several times over. (I like Setting 2, myself.)

Also very useful is the nose hair trimmer. This is not something that guys like to talk about very often but it happens to the best of us and there's no shame in trimming that unsightly growth out. This one is very useful. You just clip it in, turn it on, and jam that sucker up your nostril. Again, VERY useful.

The rest of the attachments were okay but not necessary, in my opinion.

So why 4 stars? Because of an accident that I had once with this thing, a manufacturer problem. I had started shaving my head and the power went out. Apparently it wasn't fully charged. So I was left with stripes of bald patches running down my hair, and it looked extremely bad.

I recharged it overnight, but had to go to work the next morning and didn't have time to finish the job before I left. So I had to go to work with my hair looking all nappy like I had been suffering from radiation fallout sickness or something. I had to hole up in my office all day, so I would not be seen.

This disaster could have been easily averted had the power supply on this thing been set up so that you can use the device while it is plugged in. Only it doesn't work that way. It is not set up to operate off of a power supply. It is only set up to operate off of its charge. So when it is plugged in, it is only charging the battery. If the battery is dead, then it won't turn on and you can't use it even when it is plugged in!

Whoever heard of such a crazy arrangement? This is totally unlike the other Norelco shaver (the 3-disc beard shaver). It makes me want to give it 1 star, but that would be unfair.

So basically here is my advice: Make sure that this thing is well-charged before you put it to your head. Otherwise, you may be sorry! Take it from somebody who has been there.

Review of Philips Norelco 7865XL Quadra Action Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Shaving System

This Norelco (actually made by Philips) one was bought to replace an older shaver (I've used Norelco, Philips and Panasonics over the years.) This one is more efficient (faster, better shave) than my older one, and an amazingly amount quieter. What do you know- this time, "new and improved" really is accurate!

What I like: the shaver fits the hand well, the pivoting blade heads fit the face and as a result shave quite well. The battery strength indicator, consisting of bright LEDs showing the percentage of charge remaining in 20% increments, is very useful, and the flip-up hinged shaver head section is easy to clean with warm water (I still have to consciously force myself to do this!) They have also "shrunk" the half-egg shaped power transformer, and you can use 100 - 220 volts to plug / charge, a good thing for someone who travels globally as I do.

What I don't like: the pop-up trimmer is only fair - it works, but it's actually not as effective as the one on my old shaver! The deep well holding the head rotors shafts is not so easy to clean with a brush, particularly with the hinged head; they are still using a non-user replaceable NiCd battery; the gimmicky cutter head plate section with holes seems merely that - gimmicky, not useful for any real shaving.

Tips: After cleaning the head / blade assemblies, allow them to dry fully and spray-lubricate with something like "Shaver Saver." When power seems low, turn the shaver on and allow to discharge fully before reccharging - these are, after all, still NiCd batteries with the "memory" effect. These tips have allowed my previous electrics' battery - and cutter head assemblies - to last a long time (I have a heavy beard - even with a blade shaver, I have to shave again in the afternoon if I have a dinner appointment.)

Recommendation: This is a very good, easy to use, quick and quiet electric shaver - the best I have ever used. It packs easily for travel, and though it is a bit finnicky to clean, I like it because it does the job I need it to do. Given the several deficits, I'd never give it four stars if not for how it handles its ultimate function - shaving my beard.

Review of Philips Norelco 8825XL Spectra Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Men's Shaving System

I just got my first Norelco model 8825 XL, after 7 years using a Braun 4501.I considered these two brands the top in the electrical shaving industry. In some aspects I founded the Norelco reigning over the Braun and in other aspects the Braun is much better. So, the question you should ask yourself is what type of hair are you trying to shave?

Let first look at the Norelco series:
The different between the Norelco's Spectra (8000 series), Quadra (7000 series), Advantage (6000 series), and the Reflex (5000 series) is one major feature added to each series. The Reflex sports the basic "Lift & Cut" system. The Advantage is the same but include a lotion dispenser. The Quadra's "Lift and Cut" system has two types of head with a slot and hole. The Spectra series has what the Quadra does, but include a comfort control. Both the Quadra and Spectra don't have lotion dispenser. There are also more special features that can be found in each series by looking at the 2nd digit. For example the Spectra 8894 have a digital screen where the bare-bone lower number Spectra 8825 have just a green light.

The performances, Norelco vs. Braun:
I have soft hair in the beard area and thicker hair around the lips (mustache and chin area). The Norelco does a superior job in the beard area; it cut it clean with a couple of strokes. When using the Braun (older model 4501), I sometime have to use a long trimmer and then go back over with the coil. The Norelco three individual heads move over the sides of the face a lot better.Braun does do a superior job over the mustache area.It coils has more and bigger holes then Norelco. The Spectra with it dual slot and hole head is good but takes longer time to cut down the thicker stub. The old Braun battery (NH-) is dying on me.Norelco battery (NiCd) is replaceable and you use it charged or just plug and play, which the Braun could not do.Overall, I prefer the Norelco's design.

The features I like:
I am still playing with the Personal Comfort Control and am not sure if it is necessary. The more sensitive the level is the long it takes to cut so far. The long hair trimmer is great, but that is almost standard in most models, but not the Advantage's Series.Plug and play is great, since I don't travel every day.Cleaning is simple; just rinse it in the sink.I like the solid construction the Norelco's design is, the rotating machine is fun to use and is very smooth.

Review of Philips Norelco HP6328 Women's Ladyshave Rechargeable Cordless Shaver

Of the many electric shavers I've purchased over the years, this one is among the best.I bought it from Amazon in June 2003.I have sensitive skin and have never used anything but electric razors. The shaver cuts noticeably different on the "underarm" and "legs" settings and does excellently in both; amazingly, it cuts completely on the first or second pass.As to the "bikini" setting, well, I'm 56 and don't use/need that one. This shaver also holds a charge for longer than any one I've ever had; I've used it at least three or four times between charging. At the price, including no tax and shipping, this product really delivers.May 7, 2006 update:I paid $37 for this shaver three years ago.It has worked dependably for all this time. Now the price is $25.This is a real deal considering the quality.

Review of Philips Norelco 6853XL Reflex Plus Rechargeable Cord/Cordless Men's Shaving System

I had another Norelco shaver for the last 5 (or more) years. The difference in the shaves is striking. Both less pain when my stubble is a little long and closer.

However, the reason this shaver is cheaper is that there is 1 battery inside it instead of 2.I know this because I took it in to be "repaired" because I only got 8 shaves to a charge.I talked (online) with Norelco and they said my shaver was broken. So, I looked up on the Norelco site a local authorized repair shop.I took it in and the guy opened it up.He said it was one of the "cheap" versions that has 1 instead of 2 batteries.

My old shaver, over most of its life, gave me 25 or so shaves before needing to be recharged. That's quite a difference.

Review of Philips Norelco Arcitec 1050 XD Electric Razor

My husband never liked an electric razor until I bought him the latest, best Norelco. He uses it every day and likes it very much.

Review of Philips Norelco 7775X Cool Skin Lotion Dispensing Shaver

I have VERY sensative skin and when using a regular razor or a mach 3 I can only shave every other day or my face is a wreck. With this shaver I can shave every day or twice a day if I need to with no irritation. The shave is about as close as a single blade not at all as close as Mach 3.

I liked the moisturizing lotion better than the extra fresh gel.The gel has menthol and burned my face so if you have sensative skin I would avoid ever using it.The lotion felt great. For me and the ammount of lotion I use it is cheaper to buy lotion cartridges than new mach 3 blades. It could be different for you if you use more lotion though.

It works great in the shower and great at the sink.I even used it once when my water pump quit on me and without water it worked fine just using more lotion.

This shaver really works great and its great to be able to shave daily without irritation instead of skipping days to let my face heal.

Review of Philips Norelco 7735X Cool Skin Lotion Dispensing Shaver

After experiencing some promising yet disappointing results with my Quadra Action shaver, I did some investigating and decided to purchase a new electric shaver.Closeness of shave and neck irritation have been two problems for me, so I made the decision to try a wet/dry shaver.Having had decent results with my Quadra Action, I impulse-bought a Norelco Cool Skin 7735X.After the first shave I was impressed.Today, after the second shave, all I can say is "WOW."For once, (and I'm 100% serious) the result was a shave every bit as close as a blade with almost NO irritation! This shaver is beautiful! My only concerns are that is feels 'cheap.'However, there is a 2 yr guarantee, so that shouldn't be an issue.Second, Norelco really needs to jump on the bandwagon and NOT use NiCad batteries. The unit requires an 8 hour charge for 40 mins of cordless shaving. The unit also includes a charging holster which is cumbersome and will not fit in the included travel pouch. Also, despite being a wet/dry razor, Norelco suggests you always use the lotion packs for 'best results.'Funnily enough, I asked a representative on their site if you could use your own shaving gel/cream and they said no and that using anything other than the Nivea packets may 'damage' the shaver.Uh, ok.However, so far so good.Norelco says 1 Nivea packet should last a week, so 5 packets per $5 pack x 365 days = about $52 a year on top of the price of the shaver for the Nivea packs. How soon until we see a store-brand knock-off for the packs?I'll keep you posted...
