Review of Philips Norelco 9199XL Limited Edition Formula 1 SmartTouch-XL Men's Shaving System

I purchased this item as a gift for my father. The pricetag was high and I debated for a while but ultimately took the plunge. And I think it was worth it.

I guess when re-reading the description it does explain the product pretty well but what I somehow missed is that these are limited editions and I think Philips is a Formula 1 sponsor so the appreciation on this as a collectible could be pretty intense. There are 200 units in existance and they're numbered. They also have a certificate of authenticity.

The case itself has 3 levels. The top folds down to reveal a mini-DVD, the instruction manual, a USB adapter/converter of some sort (not sure what exactly it does - dad can figure that out on his own) and a brush for cleaning the shaver.

The main level is covered by a black dust cloth.Under the cloth is the shaver in it's stand (a unique black, white and silver smart-touch.I have the 9170XLCC with the clean and charge base model actually - this one is a little sleeker/cooler looking), a flash drive that I think has a message from Williams on it but I haven't listened as this is a gift, a carbon fiber travel case for the shaver, and a miniature formula one racing car, which is highly collectible I believe.

That tray lifts out to reveal the bottom of the case and a half-tray.The half-tray holds the plastic travel cover for the shaver and the Power cord. The bottom of the container itself holds the auth certificate.

I was already pondering purchasing an electric shaver for my dad and he's a Formula 1 fan so when I found this I got pretty excited.Well worth the price when you see it in person. The presentation is flawless and makes a truly incredible gift I think.

Props to Philips on this!

Review of Braun Series 7- 790cc Pulsonic Shaver

Ok here we go for my first and probably only review on Amazon. I am 50 years old and have tried pretty much every electric shaver known to mankind. Each time giving up due tothe pinching, non close shave and pain in the butt cleaning. In the end, I was going back to razor blades and the frequent cuts. I went to Braun's website and read about this shaver and came to Amazon to see the reviews here. I decided after reading the reviews to splurge on another electric shaver.
What a find! This in my humble opinion is the greatest invention EVER! It's the first electric razor I've used which doesn't get hot after a couple minutes of use.Hot razor means sweaty face which trips up razor and adds to pinching. Braun recommends you shave before you shower or wash your face, while you still have a little protective barrier of oil on your skin. A big no-no with regular shaving, this worked well with the Pulsonic. They also recommend you shave against the grain. Again, not recommended for regular shaving. For electric shaving, works great.

I must say I Absolutely LOVE shaving now.(I would let my beard grow for days because I HATED shaving with razors and cutting myself). The Pulsonic is the closest shave ever by an electric razor(IMHO shaves as close as a razor once you master it) and more importantly it does not pinch or burn at all. Even better is the self cleaning which make life easier.
My wife laughs every morning as she now sees me shaving daily with this god send! if you are reading bad reviews on this product it must be I just don't get it.
Bottom line:BUY THIS NOW! I just ordered another one for my son!
I am telling all who read this if you hate shaving GET THIS PRODUCT you will love it.

It's hard to believe that technology and engineering can improve on the current state of shaving but Braun has managed to revolutionize shaving for speed, comfort, and closeness. Braun Pulsonic 9595 makes the daily chore of shaving so excitedly attractive that you'd want to use it several times a day - just for the feeling it gives. The Sonic Action motor generates 10,000 microvibrations per minute which helps skin and underlying muscle tissues relax while stimulating cellular flow. The result is a more youthful appearance and healthier skin. It also feels great!
With 360-degree coverage, shaving is more ergonomic and faster than you can imagine. It's like shaving at the speed of sound! Here are some other key features:Clean&Renew System automatically cleans, lubricates, dries and charges the shaver at the touch of a button, giving the feel of a brand new shaver everyday without the hassle of cleaning the appliance manually Interactive LCD screen Li-ion rechargeable battery for long lasting power per full charge 5-minute QuickCharge mode when you're on the go Dual Volt capable for international use Attractive Finish

Review of Philips Norelco 7240XL Cord/Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

For background information, I have used Norelco rotary razors for the past thirty years, my last was an 850RX. Have used the 7240XL for two weeks. Did hours of web research before buying.

Positives:
1. Shaving: Very smooth, fast, close. No razor burn. Blades conform easily to my angular features without needing to stretch skin. Note: for best results do not press against skin. A lighter touch works better. Shaves two day old beard as easily as one day old. Shaved longer hairs on neck without pulling. Trimmer is equally effective.
2. So quiet I though it was defective, until I used it to shave.
3. Easy to clean with tap water or brush. Stands upright on counter without need of a base.
4. Shape provides a good grip regardless of how it is held.

Negatives:
1. Shape may take some getting used to, but personally has not been a problem. (See "4" above)

Summary: As the title says, the 7240XL exceeded my expectation

Review of Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System

The 6423LC shaves closer than my 10-year-old Norelco/Philishave, (also corded -- I find the cordless models have insufficient power) even when both have brand-new heads. And it irritates my skin less, except when my beard is several days long: the 6423LC lacks an adjustable closeness setting that would let you set it less close to avoid irritating your skin too much on those days. But for those of you who shave every day or two this is a good choice.

Review of Philips Norelco 7110 Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

I bought this directly from Amazon about a week ago for a blowout price. It already looks like Amazon is not selling this item anymore as it is currently only listed as available from various Marketplace sellers.

For the three ten-spots I paid, I'm satisfied. It basically cost what replacement blades for my other shaver cost.I will say that this shaver doesn't appear to have the same quality of build as my last Norelco. It is lighter, doesn't feel as good in the hand, and has a cheap plastic feel. The motor sounds like it's less powerful than my older model (which listed for a similar full retail price when new); even with a full charge it doesn't sound like the blades and spinning around very fast. That being said, the thing isn't particularly quiet either.

Gives an adequate if mediocre shave.Requires lots of passes over the same area of skin in order to get everything. All in all not a terrible buy, but not a great find either.

Review of Norelco 8160XL Speed XL Mens Rechargeable Shaver

After lots of research, I decided to try this factory-refurbished Norelco 8160XL shaver.I received the shipment a week before the estimated delivery date, and things just kept getting better. The shaver has several features that I wanted, including larger shaving heads, hot water wash-up, fast recharging, very long-lasting charge (lasts more than a week), and lights that show how much charge is left. And it looks cool, too.I don't have to struggle to get a close shave. It's very quiet, and can't be heard in the next room (unlike my older Remington foil shaver, which is so loud I worry about hearing loss).I've had this shaver for several weeks now, and I'm still very happy I bought it. It's an excellent product.

Review of Philips Norelco 8140XL SpeedXL Men's Shaver

Those new XL shaving heads make a huge difference. The additional blades they added change the whole feel of the shave for the better. The shave is a more friendly shave. The heads almost feel soft against your face as you're shaving. For years I have used Afta pre-electric shave to cut down on irritation but I find with this razor it's no longer needed. It is very quiet and I must agree with another reviewer that it sounds like it's on low power. It's not.I thought that the new heads would shorten the amount of time I needed to shave but that wasn't true.It took just as long.Go figure. I would have given this razor 5 stars except after I got it I realized that it does not have a low battery indicator. That was an unwelcome surprise. The 8150XL or 8151XL does.
ADDITIONAL REVIEW AFTER TWO MONTHS OF USE: Other razors wind down slowly when running out of juice. Not this one, it goes from full speed ahead to dead in three seconds. When it does that, turn it off and then back on.It seems to have another 30 seconds of shaving when you do that.I don't know if this was an accidental or intentional design but that little trick is not in the manual.

Review of Philips Norelco 8020X Moisturizing Shaving System

I had a Philips 8160XL, but it irritates so much my neck skin. After that I bought a Panasonic linear electric shaver. Again, a lot of irritation on my neck, so I gave up and returned to razor blades. After a while, I want to return to an electric razor, for the long run savings, because razor blades are expensive. So I start looking. Finally, I have 3 posibilities:Norelco 9160XL, Norelco 8020X and Norelco coolskin 7735X.I found that Norelco 9160XL shares the same cutting blades than the 8160XL, so I discarted. The Norelco Coolskin 7735X was a temptin option, but this shaver use NiCad batteries (this battery suffers from memory, and after some time, retain less shaving time per charge). Finally, I decided for the Norelco 8020X.

Shaver:
This shaver has a body very similar to the new line of Norelco: Arcitec. The shaver is build on light plastic, but feels sturdy. The body is slim and very confortable to handle. You can use this shaver on the shower.Norelco recommends that you only use the Nivea for Men shaving conditioner, but I tried with shaving gel, and I got better results in the confort and closeness department. This is the reason why I tooked one star:Norelco should tell you that you can use others products, not only Nivea (this little can cost $9.95 on amazon plus S/H).

Charging:
Is recommended that you drain the battery before charging. This will prolong battery life.Charginf take only 8 hours. You have check, because if you charge more than 8 hours, it can damage the battery.Philips should had designed a system that shut up the current when the battery is fully charged. One full charge gave 30 minutes of continuos shaving (according to manual).I used an entire week before I had to charge it again.

Cleaning:
Very easy, just rinse the shaving heads using hot water (you can easily do this while you shower, or in the sink). You don't need special solution to clean.

Confort:
This, pherhaps is the most important area. This razon doesn't irritate my skin.Inclusive, I can wash my face using a product with salicilic acid.My recommendation is that you use shaving gel.The shaving conditioner gave me good results, but is not so great to justify the cost.In some days, I shave twice, and cero irritation.

In conclusion:
This is the best shaving system I ever tried. It gave me no irritation on my skin, no matter how agressive my pre-shaving wash soap is. I highly recommend it to any men with sensitive skin. The closeness is similar to the one when you shave with a blade following the grain.Just skip the shaving conditioner and use shaving gel (but not too much, because you can choke the shaving heads).

Review of Philips Norelco 7140 Cord/Cordless Rechargeable Shaver

The Norelco 7140XL is an excellent electric razor. Compared to more expensive models, it seems to be a great way to go. Made almost entirely of virtually indestructible plastic, the 7140XL's light weight gives it a somewhat "cheap" feel. However, many months of everyday use have proved to be confidence inspiring. This shaver is easy to recharge with the included plug in cord and the charge lasts about 2 to 3 weeks which seems to be a long time considering how easy it is to recharge...simply plug it in overnight, and when it's done an LED in the front will blink to signal that it is recharged.

The shave is close and fast and you'll be done in no time with no fuss or mess. Each of the three rotating heads flexes individually plus the entire head assembly flexes in the middle allowing it to follow the contours of your face. The only negative I have found is it doesn't shave hairs that lay flat against the skin like some of mine on the lower neck near the adam's apple. Maintenance is really easy, too...pop open the top, rinse under water, shake off excess water and let dry.

The Norelco line has many models, and the heads are a significant part of the price of the shaver (like most parts that require periodic replacement). By the time the heads need to be replaced you will have had ample time to decide if this is the shaver for you. If shaving is a chore, you might as well decide based on quick, easy and convenient...on that basis Norelco is a reliable consideration.

Best of life to you.

Review of Philips Norelco 8260 CC Men's Shaving System

I bought this shaver to replace my old Norelco shaver that I'd been using for many years, and that finally broke. This one was about double the price of that one, but I'm very disappointed to have to deal with the large "cleaning system" that came with the new shaver. The picture on Amazon shows the shaver in a cute little stand; the reality is that it comes with a huge cleaning stand that I have no room for.It seems the electric shaving folk want to get into the razor/razor blades game, by selling cleaning solution for the shavers.I'm not sure how important this is; my old one lasted very well with just a weekly "dry clean".It also seems environmentally unfriendly to be wasting some water every day, and throwing out a plastic bottle every month or so.

In addition to the cleaning stand being bulky, a terrible design decision is that you can't leave the shaver plugged into it, because it will harm battery life.Having something this big is bad enough, but having to unplug it all the time is ridiculous.

The packaging is the old horrible packaging, with unopenable plastic over everything, not the new Amazon environmentally friendly packaging.

On the other hand, the shaver works as well as the old one, and you can just ignore the cleaning stand if you want, since the recharger can plug directly into the shaver.I'd probably be perfectly happy with the shaver if it had come that way; the extra stuff just seems wasteful.

Product Description
The new Philips Norelco Speed-XL 8260CC features 50% more shaving surface for a fast close shave. The Jet Clean System automatically washes away debris and stubble. The Contour Following System follows the contours of the face catching each hair with one stroke. Review of Philips Norelco HS85 Shaving Unit

I received the Norelco mositorizing shaver for Christmas from my wife. I was hestitant to use an electric shaver and especially a wet shaver. After 4 months,I would never go back to a conventional shaver. I enjoy the ability to shave in the shower and I get a very close shave, very comparable to the conventional razor. It took a couple of weeks for my beard to adjust to the new system and also for me to adapt. I use the normal Nivea shaving lotion, rather than the moistorizing lotion, since it is easy to apply and is more cost effective. I would not go back to the old way of shaving. I am 61 and change is hard at this age, however with the Norelco 8040. it makes it easy.

Review of Philips Norelco arcitec 1060 Men's Shaving System

The Shave:
This is a lower-cost version of the Norelco 1090.The major diffference is the display. The floating heads on the Norelco electric shaver really do a good job of conforming to the curves of my face. It takes me about five minutes to shave. The shave is much more uniform than that of the Braun 3615 that I have been using for the past few years. However, the shave is not as close. Before the Braun, I used a Norelco 5801. This model is a big improvement over the old Norelco which was slow and not very close at all. The trade-off with respect to the Braun is one of a closer shave using the Braun vs. a more uniform shave with the new Norelco.

Maintenance:
The clippings are collected in pockets under the shaving heads, This is an advantage in that the clippings are not scattered over the bathroom sink as they are with some electric razors. The pockets have to be cleaned out every shave or two. This is not a big problem. It only takes a few seconds. The manual indicates that the RQ10 shaving head assembly must be replaced every year. Amazon offers the RQ10 for $35. By contrast the Braun cutter and foil assembly which lasts for about one year sells on Amazon for around $24.

PS: I found that I had to replace the head assembly after 6 months. I am now using a Remington Flex 360 Rotary Shaver which has a design similiar to the Norelco but provides a faster, closer shave, and costs a lot less.

Review of Philips Norelco BG2000 Bodygroom Replacement Trimmer/Shaver Foil

Like everyone else says, works better than the stock blade it comes with. I reluctantly ordered this blade because it says BG2000, and mine is a BG2020, but the box it comes in says it's compatible with models ranging from BG2020 to 2029, so aside from the weird naming scheme, this thing is great.

Review of Norelco 7310

After having this for 6 months and it being my first electric shaver, I am thoroughly impressed by it. I use to be a manual razor using Mach 3's and Quattro's but after trying this, its pretty much all I use daily unless I need a really close shave.

It feels like quality despite the price! Very solid and sturdy.

Review of Philips Norelco HQ200 Jet Clean Solution (Pack of 3)

The cleaning solution is fine.Just don't trust the manual's stuff about how often to use it.That's written by the "selling more razor blades" department. If you read the manual carefully, it says that you shouldn't recharge the battery uintil the shaver blinks at you.But the cleaning process automatically recharges. When I called the company they admitted you shouldn't clean the shaver frequently.I find doing it when I need to recharge does fine, and will save money.

Review of Philips Norelco HQ 55 Reflex Replacement Heads

If you don't, you know what'll happen:

There you are, shaving for that special evening out when you realize your face isn't getting any smoother. No matter how many passes you make with your Norelco Reflex Plus shaver, you just can't seem to get that clean, close shave you remember from when it was new (when was that?June, 2003? 2002!?).

It's too late now.No time to throw on a T-shirt, tear out of the garage to the nearest T**get, W*l-M**t or R*te-A*d and hope and pray they have a pack of Norelco HQ55+ heads in stock.

Look, Amazon.com is going to pay for Super Saver shipping anyway, so there goes one excuse.Norelco knows some guys keep a backup set of heads in the bathroom, so they seal the package against humidity.Even if your shaver is brand new, why not order the new heads right now? When they arrive, jot the replacement date on the back of the package with an indelible marker and toss it into the bathroom drawer, next to the replacement heads for your electric toothbrush.

It's OK, you can thank me later.

You're welcome.

Review of Philips Norelco 8040X Moisturizing Shaving System

I am not a novice to electric shavers, so keep in mind that I have used many different shavers over the years. I began shaving (electric always) when I was 15 years old. I am now 60 years old (young?).Keep in mind the differences in charge time, quick charge capabilty and full charge indication when comparing the three models in the line.
I have used the 8040X WITHOUT ANY conditioner to see if I could avoid the added ongoing expense(Norelco says that is no problem)and I must say that the shave is top notch. This unit has provided one of the closest shaves (if not THE closest) that I have ever had. My neck is quite a difficult area to deal with. It is difficult to shave it closely (I have no clue why...but especially on the left side of my neck!), yet from day one...and without using the Nivea...the 8040X has provided a superb (and fast) shave. In summary...I wanted a shaver that does an excellent job of shaving closely...expecially in my 'problem' areas and one that works quickly and without irritating my skin. This Norelco has performed much better than I expected on all counts. Highly recommended without any reservations.

Review of Philips Norelco 1050CC arcitec Men's Shaving System

I bought the new Philips Norelco 1050cc Arcitec Shaving System, returned it for a refund after 30 days, and then purchased a the new Braun Pulsonic 9595 Shaving System. Since I've had experience with both now, I thought my experience might be of value to others. I've had 3 Norelco shavers over the past 20 years. The 9595 is my first Braun shaver.

Shaving Closeness - The Braun definitely gives a closer shave and in less time, although the Norelco is acceptable. One reviewer commented about getting nicks from the Braun but I have not had that problem at all, even around the chin.

Comfort - The Braun feels heavier (I didn't actually weigh them) but I found the Braun more comfortable to hold.

Noise - The Braun is noisier, especially during the cleaning cycle.

Status Indicators on the Shaver - The indicators are better on the Braun; however, I've since learned that's mostly because I had the 1050 model. I now see that the 1060 or the 1090 models would have been better and probably would equal the Braun.

Charging/Cleaning Stand - The Braun is more convenient to replace the cleaning fluid but about the same cost (about $1.00 per week). Both seem to clean equally well. The charge and cleaning status lights on the Braun are easier to see and give better status information. But the big difference here is the way the charging system works. With the Braun, you simply place your used razor in the stand, push a button, and the cleaning & charging are taken care of. However, with the Norelco, there are a number of warnings in the book to unplug the unit after it completes its cycle. This is a major inconvenience if you have to hang around and remember to unplug the unit. Also, the lack of an on/off switch seems a poor and cheap design.

Trimmer - To even off my sideburns, I found the Norelco somewhat difficult to use because the trimmer did not stick out far enough beyond the shaving head. This was not a problem with the Braun.

Cost - The Braun cost about $20 more.

Return Policy - 60 day money back with Norelco; only 30 days with Braun.

Bottom-Line - I started with a bias toward the Norelco because of my past experiences but in my opinion, this new Braun definitely surpasses the Norelco in terms of shaving closeness and convenience. Braun is clearly worth the extra $20, although the Norelco is a decent product.

Review of Philips Norelco G480 All-in-One Premium Grooming Kit

I'm hairy.I don't deny that whatsoever. With that in mind, I decided that my body would be an excellent testing ground for the Philips Norelco G480 All-In-One Grooming Kit.I personally tested each and every accessory that came in this kit. After allowing for the ten hour charge period (I actually gave it about fifteen hours), I entered my bathroom and started my hair removal process with the nose, ear and eyebrow trimmer.Although it does an excellent job of removing the hair, it did pull a tad bit at my nose hairs. My second victim was the mini shaver, which is exactly that:a mini version of a real electric shaver. As with the big version of these blades, it gave a "close enough to last till five o'clock" shave but still can't beat an actual razor.Next was the precision trimmer, which worked excellently. It gave me some wonderful looking sideburns.I used all three of the combs next, with the hair clipper comb working the best. The beard and moustache comb did a decent job, but had more curves to deal with than the hair comb. The eyebrow comb, much like its beard/moustache compadre, didn't fare quite as well as the others. The fine detailing blade works well, especially around the ears, which is an oft-neglected area on my body. The final test was reserved for the full-sized trimmer blade without any type of guard on it.I used it to shave my head, neck, back and chest. While it gets exceptionally close, I didn't look anything like Captain Picard or Charles Barkley when I was finished. That job is still reserved for my old razor and shaving cream, which I did utilize to finish the job.

While I'm still ugly, I am a lot cleaner looking than before using the Philips Norelco grooming kit.The best performers in the lot were the detailing blade, precision trimmer and the full-sized trimmer blade without the guard on it.The mini shaver garnered the poorest results, but is a good tool to use between real shaves. As for the battery life, I did all of the above clipping and trimming in one sitting without having to recharge.

If you're a guy (or girl) who likes a very neat and clean look (and not necessarily bald), this grooming kit is well worth it's price. It's one of the best electric kits I've used and I've gone through quite a few in my lifetime.Give this kit a try. You're skull (and back, and nose, and chest, and better half) will thank you for it.

Review of Philips Norelco T780 Rechargeable Vacuum Trimmer

The vacuum feature of the trimer is fantastic compared to the older models which shot trimmings out all over the sink area.

The only draw backs are no travel pouch is included and no specialty mini trimmer included with the T780.

Great trimmer for trimming large areas or large amounts of hair i.e, winter to summer beard.

Too large to get in to smaller areas or to use to do detailed trimming

Recommend the T980 which comes with the Mini trimmer and travel pouch if you can afford it.

Review of Philips Norelco RQ10 Shaving Unit

The Shave:
The floating heads on the Norelco electric shaver really do a good job of conforming to the curves of my face. It takes me about five minutes to shave according to the built in timer on the handle. The shave is much more uniform than that of the Braun 3615 that I have been using for the past few years. However, the shave is not as close. Before the Braun, I used a Norelco 5801. This model is a big improvement over the old Norelco which was slow and not very close at all..

If you are buying this product, I suggest that you search Amazon and Google for the best price.

PS: I found that I had to replace the head assembly after 6 months. I am now using a Remington Flex 360 Rotary Shaver which has a design similiar to the Norelco but provides a faster, closer shave, and costs a lot less.

Review of Philips Norelco 7810 Men's Cutting System

I have been using Norelco electric razors since 1989. My last product was the model 6843XL that I bought in 2005, I replaced the cutting heads twice. Recently I bought this model 7810XL an it is awesome. It's very noticeable the closer shaving that you get. The speed of the cutting heads is higher and quiet. The design of the cover of the head has different patterns, lines as the former but also little holes that catch the shortest remaining stuble. The capability of to be cleaned with hot water under the faucet is an additional advantage.

I recommend to any that previously own an old model that try this one.

Product Description
The new 7810 features the Precision Cutting System with slots to cut long hairs and holes to shave the shortest stubble. Also, the 7810 features an ergonomically-designed handle for comfort. Cleaning is simple with the 7810 as it is completely washable. The Patented Reflex Action System automatically adjusts to every curve on your face for flexible, smoother shaving. Super Lift and Cut technology features a dual blade system that lifts hairs to cut comfortably below skin level.

Review of Philips Norelco 8160XLCC SpeedXL Jet Clean Men's Shaving Set

Just purchased and have been using this shaver for one week. I was caused to change shavers when a Braun 7500 series died just beyond the warranty period. The new Norelco is beyond my expectations and is much better than my prior Braun. The Noelco is the quitest shaver I have ever used in over thirty years of shaving. It is also produces the cleanest shave I have ever received with few facial areas that you need to go back a second time to shave. Perhaps the only fault I can find with the shaver is that once you have used the automatic cleaner one must remember to either unplug the cleaner base or move the shaver (disconnect the point of contact between the base and the shaver)otherwise the shaver base goes from cleaning mode to charge mode. Otherwise a great shaver and Amazon with its rebate offer makes the shaver a great deal.

Review of Philips Norelco HQ6 Quadra Action Tripleheader Replacement Heads

These are replacement heads for what I consider the best all-around electric razor on the market, the Quadra 7865XL. (My first Norelco electric lasted 30 years.) The razor itself is efficient-but the "business ends" are the heads. The manual says to replace them every year, but they are rather pricey. I was not thrilled by this aspect of the product, but experience has shown that you don't have to replace them that often IF YOU KEEP THE HEADS CLEAN. I brush mine out every time I use the razor, and clean the entire head assembly every one to two weeks. The major cleaning is easy: take the entire head assembly off the razor (the hinge snaps into the body) and place it in a small dish of Formula 409™ (DO NOT USE A CLEANER CONTAINING AMMONIA! It will destroy the plastic parts and cause corrosion of the metal.) or similar household surfactant cleaner for a few hours, then take the heads out to rinse and clean them as instructed. Then I lubricate them as instructed. Do not overlubricate! Following this procedure, I can make them last a year and a half, and I shave my entire head every day.

However: You will notice a decrease in efficiency after about a year, and if your whiskers (or hair) are particularly tough, yearly replacement may be a necessity.

Also note that the instructions indicate a "breaking in period" for new heads. This is quite true of any self-sharpening electric razor head. Two or three shaves after replacement, there is a marked increase in efficiency.

In sum: a good product that works as advertized when used according to the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. With extra care in use, it works better than advertized.

Review of Philips Norelco NT9110 Precision Nose and Ear Trimmer

My first trimmer was a Panasonic ER411NC.It was a very good trimmer, providing me with an elegant solution to a problem that most men start to have once they reach middle age: nasal hair. The Panasonic has a circular tip that has small, slit-like openings.Inside the tip is a spinning blade. The hair gets caught between the slits and the spinning blade. That is how it cuts.I wrote a review of that trimmer back in July of 2004 and gave it 4 stars.

My second trimmer was another Panasonic, ER421KC.This one had a small LED light to help you see while trimming under your nose.I bought it to replace the ER411NC after it fell off the counter and damaged its blades. The ER421NC is very uncomfortable.Althought it uses the same blade design as the ER411NC, the motor seems to be weaker. It is easily stopped. The spinning blade sometimes cannot cut the hair that gets caught between the slits and itself. The hair can force the blades to stop spinning. It will be hard to remove without pulling the hair out. This is very uncomfortable, to say the least. It will bring tears to your eyes.

I bought this Norelco (the subject of this review) to replace the second Panasonic. The design of the Norelco is different. It cannot be forced to stop by your hair.It uses the same cutting design as your sideburn and mustache trimmer. So far, it has proven itself to be comfortable. However, it does take longer and more effort to trim with the Norelco. You will have to make sure that the hairs that you want to trim are caught between the oscillating blades of the trimmer. And, since the blades are small, this could take a few minutes of your time.Whereas with the Panasonic, all you need do is stick the tip in your nose and move it from side to side. With the Norelco, you will have to be more deliberate. However, it is the most comfortable of the three.Plus, you can use the Norelco to trim your eyebrows, if you need that sort of thing. It is also the easiest to clean out of the three.

I believe this will be a good trimmer for you, if you value comfort above any other consideration. This trimmer is waterproof and it can be washed with warm water.

Review of Philips Norelco 7340 Men's Shaving System

I bought the shaver from Best Buy for $52 three weeks ago. I'm 63 and have been using Braun shavers for the past 25 years because I felt they gave a closer shave than Norelco.

This Norelco, which although is made in China, seems very well made. It is remarkably quiet and comfortable, a pleasure to use. After three weeks of getting my beard accustomed to the shaver I can say it seems to shave reasonably close and gets all the hairs - something my Braun had a problem with.

I just completed a test, shaving half my face with the Norelco, half with my old Braun (not in the best shape), and after judging my beard the next morning, the Norelco easily won. It's not as close as a blade - by 5 p.m I notice a stubble, but considering how easy it is to use (and washable) I really can't complain! an excellent shaver at a reasonable price.

The new 7340 features the Precision Cutting System with slots to cut long hairs and holes to shave the shortest stubble. Cleaning is simple with the 7340 as it is completely washable. The Patented Reflex Action System automatically adjusts to every curve on your face for flexible, smoother shaving. Super Lift and Cut technology features a dual blade system that lifts hairs to cut comfortably below skin level.

Review of Philips Norelco G370 All-in-1 Grooming System

Decided to look for a new beard and mustache trimmer when my trusty old Norelco Maverick TX-450 finally gave up the ghost and just quit running. If this sounds like I'm slamming the product, I'm not, as I had owned this basic battery-operated trimmer for over sixteen years - far longer than I ever expected it to last when I first got it. I could have probably fixed it (again) if I disassembled and cleaned it out, but decided to see what might be new on the market. This was primarily used as a mustache trimmer, but after using it for a few years with a handheld comb, was able to do a fair job with my beard.

Was amazed to see how many models were now available, and how many companies were making them. After doing some research (and asking my barber), ended up getting the Philips Norelco G370 All-in-1 Grooming System, and must say that so far this seems to have been a good choice. My barber had suggested that I stay with the more basic (and more economical) trimmers, as most from a particular manufacturer have the same heads as their higher-priced models, and it was the cutting head itself that made a trimmer good or bad. He had suggested that I consider some of the Wahl and Panasonic models, but also had a personal preference for the Philips Norelco products, as they seemed to last... which I had also experienced.

This trimmer has a great array of attachments, and each of them is quite useful, performing exactly as expected. It has an excellent beard and moustache comb/guide with nine locking length settings, as does the hair clipper comb. The little mini-shaver attachment is good for cleanup, and acts like a miniature micro-screen electric razor. Was cautious about the nose and ear trimmer, but after reading the instruction sheet, found that it was easy to master.

The online comparison chart between the various Philips Norelco trimmers is wrong here, as this one does come with a nylon travel pouch. This model features:

* Six attachments that can be rinsed, making it easy to clean
* Nine length settings with the key trimming attachments
* Self-sharpening blades, no oil needed
* Charging stand with storage slots
* Travel pouch (the listed specs are wrong)
* Two-year factory warranty

Took the time to read the instruction sheet that came with this trimmer, which was detailed but easy to understand. The instructions had indicated that the trimmer shouldn't be left with the unit shouldn't be left charging full-time, which I found to be a nuisance at first. When setting up the plastic charging and attachment stand, found that if it was rested gently above the charging plug, the green charging light was off, so that eliminated that problem. Charged it for the ten hours suggested before using it, and it has worked fine, and a charge last for weeks. The stand itself looked to be a bit flimsy at first glance, but while handling it when I was setting it up, found that it was sturdier than I had first thought. All of the attachments fit easily in the proper slots.

Must note that this unit came in one of those irritating clamshell packages. This one was more of a nuisance to open than most because it was difficult to see if the contents were going to be damaged when cutting through the plastic with a combination of scissors and a sharp knife.

Pros:
- Excellent selection of attachments
- A single charge lasts for weeks
- Charging stand holds everything quite well
- Good ergonomics, nice feel to it
- Solid; seems to be built well
- Detailed instruction sheet
- 60-day money-back guarantee, 2-year warranty

Cons:
- Horrible clamshell package, difficult to open

Since we all have different things that we look for in trimmers like this, thought that I might share some of my findings with others here.

Also considered the Philips Norelco G380 All-in-1 Grooming System, but the only difference between this and the Philips Norelco G370 Trimmer was that the G380 came in a gray color and had a travel pouch... which also came with the black G370 trimmer.

Looked at the Philips Norelco T980 Turbo Vacuum Trimmer which was considered for its hair deflector and vacuum, but the price difference was enough to make me go for the more basic G370 trimmer.

The Wahl 9918-617 Groomsman Beard and Mustache Trimmer seemed to be a good one, and its ability to operate cordless via battery or plugged into charger sounded good, and it had good reviews. This was a very close second choice.

The Wahl 9877-500 "The Goatee" Advanced Dual Blade, Rechargeable/Cordless Beard, Goatee & Mustache Trimmer had some interesting dual blades, but the Philips Norelco G370 had more attachments, and the model that I looked at made me shy away from this one.

Had also considered the stylish Panasonic ER2403K 5 Position Beard/Moustache Trimmer. This one features wet or dry trimming, five length adjustments and an excellent price, but since it uses two AAA batteries, decided to rule it out.

In the end, it was my past experience with the Philips Norelco products that helped make my choice, and I don't regret it. If I can get half the life of the sixteen years of service that I got from my original Maverick TX-450, then I'll be happy.

Product Description
Philips Norelco's G370 gives you everything you need to define your style in one convenient all-in-one grooming kit.The G370 comes with a full size trimmer, mini foil shaver, hair clipper comb, beard and moustache trimmer comb, nose, ear and eyebrow trimmer and precision trimmer. Review of Philips Norelco BG2020 Bodygroom Shaver

If you are insecure about the body grooming process and are not comfortable about his subject "STOP READING THIS NOW". This was meant for informational purposes only.

Yes, the rumors are true...I am now the proud owner of the Norelco "Bodygroom".And let me just say this "A+ Norelco, well done". Now lets get into my formal review of the product.

Appearance: Very nice, comes with a charging stand...fits in your hand nicely...easy to hold on to at awkward angles. Trimmer guards are a nice clear bright blue color...easy to find in the messiest of drawers. They are easy to pop on, however they can be stubborn to get off.

Underarm Hair:
This area was the most time consuming...the product did its job, however I would use it in conjunction with something a little more beefy to knock it down first...this is probably a first time only concern as follow-up jobs will be much easier.

Chest and Ab Hair:
No problems, a very nice look obtained with the number 2 guard.

Groin:
Lets just say the "Bodygroom" is Shaft, Beanbag, and Starfish safe. No nicks or any pain...no worries...that does not mean go in there like a maniac...take your time...the two trimmers on the front and back(allow for push or pull stroke) knock down the forest while the foil on top produced nice smooth skin...Like any shaving product redness and skin irritation are inevitable (24 hrs later), however I noticed that the skin irritation was only about one third that of standard Mach 3 shave. The skin irritation was limited to the inner thighs (Shaft, Beanbag, and Starfish showed no signs of irritation)....Here is a word of warning, if you are a hairy man in the posterior / back (buttocks cheeks) region, I would not suggest going bald there...although the bodygroom does yield very smooth results, re-growth maybe a little annoying.

All in All the boodygroom is a great product and offers a safe way to prep those sensitive areas. I can not at this time give you a female perspective on this product...I can only assume that it will yeild similar results...I will keep you informed of any new developments.

Review of Philips Norelco BG2030 Professional BodyGrooming System

In this review I am going to cover the BG2030 and also compare it to the previous model, the BG2020.There are some big differences between the two models and just because the BG2030 is the newer model, it may not be the one for you. Also, this is a body groomer and as such, body anatomy will be discussed. If you are easily offended, stop reading this review now.

If you are like me, you saw this body groomer and wondered what the big difference between this and a regular electric razor was.Well, after having been in those shoes, let me explain. If you've ever tried to cautiously use an electric razor or an electric trimmer on parts of your body below your neck, then you probably had a mixed experience. On some parts of your body it works, whereas on other parts it was painful and simply not possible. Those days are now gone.Regular electric razors/trimmers were never designed to shave the entire body. However, body groomers have been designed to shave the ENTIRE body and have blades that are closer together to prevent pinching the skin, thus providing a pain-free experience.

For the sake of clarity we need to address the parts of the shaver. In the picture you will see that there are two different heads that you can attach to the handle. The attachment with the foil on the inside and the cutters on the outside will be referred to as the foil attachment. The other attachment that doesn't have a foil will be referred to as the trimmer attachment. Also, there are 2 trimming combs and each trimming comb has 5 different settings, allowing you to trim your hair from anywhere to .12in(3mm) to .43in(11mm).Those are just the length settings when using the combs; you can get a smooth shave when you use the foil attachment. Also, all the pieces can be stored in the back of the charging stand.Unfortunately, there is no travel case.

Underarm Hair:
Prior to the BG2030, the BG2020 really struggled here and it took a lot of time. Now however you can use the trimmer attachment to knock down most of the forest. However, once the forest is down, minor maintenance with the foil attachment doesn't take long.

Chest and Ab Hair:
No problems at all.I was a little concerned about the nipple area but both the foil and the trimmer attachment were able to be used without any pinching at all.

Groin:
In the words of another reviewer, the "Bodygroom" is Shaft, Beanbag, and Starfish safe. No nicks or any pain...no worries at all.You can trim the forest to any length, and then follow up with foil attachment if that is your desire.Because of the design of the groomer, you can shape things any way you would like.I experienced no skin irritation, however, I would imagine that most people will experience at least some irritation.I have used the shaver both in and out of the shower and have noticed that I get a smoother shave when I'm in the shower. This is due to the warm water relaxing the skin and opening up the follicles, which makes it easier to shave.Like any electric razor, there are going to be some hairs that lay flat that you're just not going to get no matter how hard you try. When it comes to effectiveness, I actually think that my Mach 3 does a better job in getting everything smooth, but the body groomer is more convenient, and also allows you to trim certain areas instead of going completely smooth if that is your desire.

Travel:
Come on, Norelco, no travel case? Why do you do this?

--------------BG2030 compared to the BG2020----------------

The most obvious difference is that the BG2030 comes with the additional trimmer attachment. Also, you now only have 2 combs with multiple settings vs. 3 combs that had fixed settings.Sounds like the BG2030 is perfect, right?Well, what isn't obvious in the picture is that the BG2030 trimming combs only attach to the trimmer attachment and DO NOT fit the foil attachment! This is a HUGE change because the BG2020 model allowed you to attach trimming combs to the foil attachment.Norelco, what were you thinking?

The reason that this is a problem is because if you want to do both a trim and a shave, then you have to swap out head attachments whereas before you just had to remove the combing attachment. If you keep the body groomer in the shower, then that means you also have to keep both head attachments in the shower.Personally, it's frustrating to have to change out the head attachment and now when I travel I have to take both heads instead of just the one.

If you plan on doing any traveling with your shaver (without the charging stand), you'll probably want the BG2020, mainly because you can put a combing attachment over the foil to protect it.Also, you don't have to take the additional head.If you want to travel with the BG2030, then you'll need to find a way to protect the foil or else you'll have to take the charging stand with the storage compartment to keep the foil attachment in.

-------------------------- Overall Opinion ----------------------------

This is a FANTASTIC shaver, but I'm rating it 4 stars because Norelco chose to do away with combing attachments for the foil head.If they'd provide that like they did in their previous model, the BG2020, then the BG2030 would be untouchable. They also need to add a lanyard to it so you can hang it in the shower vs. having to lay it down and damage the foil.If you are looking for a groomer to just trim and shave your groin area and chest area, then I think the BG2020 might be a better fit for you.If on the other hand you're going to be shaving big areas that have a lot of hair to knock down and you don't mind switching heads all the time, then the BG2030 will probably work better for you.

Review of Philips Norelco HQ8 Spectra Tripleheader Replacement Heads

Replacement blades are a must. The razor will remind you about once a year which is fine in most cases. But, if you have a heavy beard or shave more than once a day, as I do, then you should replace the blades every 8 months or so. The reminder on the razor is only a suggestion, not a command. After all, it does not know when the blades get dull. So, I simply ignore the reminder and replace the blades when I feel it is necessary.

One thing you must do is use the new blades for several days until they settle in and adjust to your skin. Until then you may have a little irritation. Another problem I have solved is the hair on my neck. I use to think the harder I press the razor, the better it would get those stray hairs. But, all I got was a rash. I discovered that if I simply use a very light touch and not press hard then it got those hairs much better and with no redness.

Replace your blades at least once a year and your face with thank you.

Review of Philips Norelco arcitec 1090 Men's Shaving System

I have shaved exclusively with electric shavers my entire adult life.A bit of a ritual, but I always buy the new top of the line Norelco as soon as it becomes available. I currently have the 9195XL and the James Bond Spectra shavers.I pre-ordered this on Amazon and was anxious to get it as it clearly is a major departure from Norelco's typical styling. It arrived completely dead which I thought a bit odd, but charging it was the another first. No cord plugs into the bottom, it has two small round electrical contacts the size of ball bearings, one on each side.It charges in its stand or the travel case, a nice touch. The new head arrangement pivots FAR more than any prior model and it really hugs the contours of your face and neck.It is relatively quiet, shaves VERY fast and very close with no irritation. It is also extremely easy to clean. Each cutter/comb assembly hinges up, but remains attached to the head making it very easy to rinse out without worrying about the cutters and combs separating from one another.Since the whole head assembly must be replaced to get new cutters, I suspect that part will command a premium. The protective head guard will not come off until you physically remove it, another Norelco first.

Negatives?Price, depending on your perspective. The trimmer is worse than useless.it is quite small and mounted at an odd place in relation to the cutting head making it especially awkward to use.I use a separate beard and mustache trimmer as I have never found an electric shaver to have a good one.

Bottom line:this is Norelco's best shaver to date...at least for my face.It also comes with a 60 day money back guarantee, so you risk nothing by trying it....which you definitely should.

Review of Philips Norelco HQ9 SpeedXL Replacement Heads

This product contains three replacement heads for the Norelco 9160XL electric razor. After 1 1/2 years of continuous daily usage the original cutting heads were no longer giving a good shave. I decided to replace the original blades with this set.

The good:

1.)Easy to following instruction for replacement on the package, and the actual replacement process was incredibly simple and easy to do.

2.)The new blades functioned perfectly; because the decline in performance of the original blades was so gradual, it was difficult to believe how much of an improvement these replacement blades provided.

The not so good:

Only one complaint; the packaging. The replacement blade were embodied in a package that made it extremely difficult to actually get at the blades. There were a series of 6 grommet eyelets surrounding the entire package making it very secure. I literally had to force scissors between the layers of cardboard to get around the grommets to eventually get to the blades inside. In a word...frustrating. Plus, a slight slip and a bad cut may have occurred (I think everyone has experienced trying to open one of these newer hard-plastic wrapped items and knows just how difficult it can really be to get at the product inside).

Conclusion:
An excellent set of replacement blades. (I just hope they'll last longer than the 3 months it took for the original blades to start to lose their sharpness). Time will tell; but up to now, so far so good.
However, getting the blades out of this package could be considered a potential hazard.
5 Stars for the product itself, with 1 or 2 Stars off for the needless obstructive packaging.

Addendum Feb 24/08:
Interesting to note that they've changed the packaging on this product (since my original review) making it appear that it's less hazardous to access. However, as I haven't purchase this specific product package, I can't comment on the ease of access (or safety) of the new packaging.

Review of Philips Norelco SpeedXL 8240XL Men's Shaving System

Before obtaining this shaver (through a promotion) I had been using the Philips Spectra 8890XL shaver (the so-called "James Bond" shaver), which was the top of the Philips line a few years ago, which at the time was widely reviewed as the best available electric shaver, and which retailed for around $200. I had doubts that this shaver, which retails for about half that, could best the one I already had.

In terms of shave, I was wrong. This 8240XL (which is identical is shave to sister models 8250XL and 8251XL) is a TERRIFIC shaver. With this new shaver, I can shave much more quickly, and it handles the hard to shave areas (e.g. my neck) with more aplomb. In addition, it's a lot quieter than my old shaver, and it's lighter!

Outside of the shaving ability, this is a somewhat bare bones model. That means no shaving height adjustment, no digital readout of battery life remaining (just a light which lights only when you're charging and blinks when the charge is done), and no stand. But the shaver itself is excellent. What a surprise.

Now I'm left in the strange position of considering relegating my old expensive Spectra to my travel kit!

Review of Philips Norelco 7310 Men's Shaving System

This shaver provides a fairly standard Norelco (i.e. 3 head rotary shaver) shave -- however, definitely not as fast or smooth as the more expensive norelco models. This product is really only for the norelco (rotary) shaver fan, that cant afford a more expensive model.Anyone else should look elsewhere.

As compared to, say, your typical single head Braun, to me at least, the Norelco models I have used (this is the second) seem to take a little longer to shave with, a little less powerful.I gather some like that the three heads contour to their face better or some such, but after years of experience, I still prefer the quicker shave of the traditional single head (non-rotary) shavers.I tend to think most electric shavers get you to the same closeness eventually, but some just take longer/more passes to do it, and the norelco's seem slower.

As compared to my prior 4 or 5 year old (but more expensive) Norelco, this shaver takes a little longer to get the job done, and is a bit rougher on the face, even after giving my face a few weeks to "adjust" as they say.Its not radically different then my older Norelco, but definitely somewhat slower/rougher.

The thing feels generally solid enough and comfortable in the hand. The pop up trimmer seems reasonably solid, useful for trimming longer hairs, but useless for detail work.It will trim my small sideburns, but I 100% need a straight edge to get the remaining smaller hairs off.(Trying to clean up the side burn area with the rotary heads just does not work.)The power cord is a bit odd - you really need to shove it in the slot *hard* or it doesnt stay.Once I got used to it, was ok.

The plug is also a little on the large side, which could be an issue for traveling, though not that bad really.

Potential issue:I am not sure about this model, but many norelco shavers, the battery cannot be changed easily because its welded in.At $40-50 for the razor, I suppose that is not a huge issue, but its not a plus factor either.

This razor does hold a charge for quite a while, its good for several shaves without a recharge. However, there is no charge indicator at all. There is a green light that comes on when the razer is on, and another green light when its plugged in, but nothing changes as the battery gets low that I can see.You know it needs a charge when the motor starts to slow.A 5 or 10 minute emmergency charge is fine, so its not a great problem.

Verdict:decent shaver, but no great bargain at $40-50.Spending more money or buying something different is recommended unless you love the norelco shave and this is your price range.

**Editted Verdict: Well, I just bought a much more expensive Brawn series 5 razor...after a week of use and multiple side by side tests...have to say, this cheap razor fares vastly better then I thought it would, actually beating the Brawn in some respects. For day to day shaving...it may (gasp) actually be a little better then the Series 5.Could be I was biased against it because I knew it was cheap. The price is also now more like $25-30 then the $49.99 my wife paid, so its VERY cheap.

Review of Philips Norelco arcitec 1050 Men's Shaver

I have ready many user reviews and some technical reviews on the Norelco Arcitec and it has brought me to three conclusions: 1) You can't please everyone but you CAN please most 2) Some of the reviews must have been written by the competition and 3) A little more attention to detail will help some of you understand the product better.

I have been mostly a blade man for about 25 years, having only made a few brief attempts at using an electric. For the past several years, I have been using the Gillette Mach 3 and now the Fusion razors. They are the best blades ever, give a quick close shave and cost so much moneyto replace ($28.99 msrp for 8 blades), that if I changed them out when I really should (weekly is ideal and almost necessary they go dull so fast), I will have paid for the Norelco Arcitec 1050 plus a little extra, in just one year of use.

In the interest of trying something new, I have tried electrics before.I tried Norelco's first generation of the Nivea wet shaver and it was great, though it did run out of Nivea fast, which was hard to find and expensive and then I got bored and distracted and stopped using it almost as quickly as I started.BUT, it is still a work horse and whenever I break it out of retirement, and it still does a great job, even with worn out blades.

So, I decided to give the Arcitec a try.First, everyone comments on design and style, so let's get that out of the way.Great, innovative, light, maneuverable, and incredibly effective.I am NOT a dry shave guy.I only do it out of necessity when I am in a hurry.I have always found that wet shaving, even with my other Norelco which can do either, was WAYYY better and more comfortable. But, this is enough to convert me in just one use.Quick, smooth, effect, close, comfortable.

Let's debunk a couple of design complaints I have read about in previous reviews...

The trimmer...Yes, the trimmer may be a bit small, but I have a small face, and I almost never use a trimmer, so no biggie.BUT, one of the complaints I have read several times is that placement is bad because "you end up cutting your hair with the razor when you try to use the trimmer".People... the razor head pops off!Just pull it off when you are using the trimmer. It's pretty obvious you are supposed to.Which leads me to...

Replacing the blades...Other's have complained that you can't replace the blades, just the entire head from the neck up and that appears to be true. One user even said it costs almost as much as a new razor.Rubbish! It's $33 and change on Amazon for a new razor head.It will probably be less by the time any of us actually need to buy replacements. When was the last time you replaced the blades in an electric razor (O.K., a GOOD electric razor) for under $30?Assuming you do it once a year, you will pay what yo would for one 8 pack of Fusion blades.

Cleaning the blades... you have to open three small slots, instead pushing one button for one big chamber. It takes three seconds, so what?

There isn't a big hair chamber...Again, so what?I always hated having a bunch of hair gather in my razor.

The battery supposedly can be damaged by over charging, unlike previous models. Most likely, Norelco is just being careful. The nature of lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries is that they CAN'T be over charged, they have no burn in memory, and are safe to leave in the charge at all times. Even my old first-gen Norelco Nivea razor with cheap NiCad batteries, could be left in the charger forever and it never burned and still holds a charge for months or even years. You can take the risk and leave it in the charger.I did it all afternoon and evening yesterday with no notable problems.

One last observation, and I'm not the first one to make it...The only difference between the 1050, 1060 and 1090 razors is the LED.Each one offers a little more detail than the rest, but costs noticeably more for that detail. In all other ways each razor is the same.Maybe it's just me, but why pay up to $100 more for a unit that does all the same things?I don't care if mine has an LED that says I have 65 minutes left.

So, nutshell... great design, great performance, great everything.Take negative opinions with a grain of salt. With a 60 day return policy to Norelco, it's worth a trial run.I've only had it for a day and I already like it enough to keep it.

By the way, if you like wet shaving, it looks like it can do that too.
